Painting: Echo of a scream
Painter: David Alfaro Siqueiros
The year of publish: 1937
The
objective of this painting is there are two little boys who have the same
expressions on their faces, one boy has an enlarger head, and the other boy
comes from his mouth. The little boy wears a red cloth and is sitting on the
floor. Both boys have the same expression on their face; they are frowning and
their faces are full of pain and anger. Behind them is a mess. All of the
buildings are collapsed and all of glasses are broken, even trees are all
fallen. The weather is not well. Also, there is no shiny day; the whole city is
enveloped in the dust.
The
reason why I chose this picture is the two boys’ expression attracted me. I think
there must be a story behind this painting. The painter must have suffered very
badly or he felt very lonely. I think to be a child is the happiest age in our
life. There is no economic things they need to worry about; there is no
education pressure they need to deal with. But there is no happiness on these
two babies, all they have is pain and anger. And they don’t have a home behind
them and there is no one with them. I think a war is just over. They lost their
family and their home. I think the painter wants to use the two crying babies
to express what he has suffered. He uses his painting to tell us the sacrifice
of war is human. The powerful men want to fight because of their power, but
they neglect the innocent people. A lot of kids will become orphans after war,
and a lot of adults will lose their family. And their home won’t exist after
war.
